Saint Stephen 

Saint Stephen has the distinction of being the first martyr for the Faith. He was one of the first seven deacons ordained by the Apostles.

His good works and eloquent preaching gained for him the envy and hatred of the Jewish Sanhedrin which had him stoned to death in the year 33.

His dying words are well known: " Lord, lay not this sin to their charge" and to their efficacy is attributed the conversion of Saint Paul who as Saul of Tarsus assisted in the martyrdom of Saint Stephen. 

The Feast of Saint Stephen occurs on December 26. He is the patron of bricklayers.
